Hockey World Mourns Loss of Legendary Coach and Mentor

MEDIA RELEASE – For Immediate Release

The Sherwood Park Minor Hockey Association was saddened to learn of Clare Drake’s passing on Sunday, May 13th.  The legendary coach and leader compiled the most wins in Canadian university hockey history and led the Alberta Golden Bears to six National titles and seventeen Canada West Conference championships.  In addition, Drake had professional coaching experience in both the World Hockey Association and the National Hockey League with the Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets, and consulted with several NHL teams.  In minor hockey circles he will be remembered as instrumental in developing the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and Coach Mentorship programs. Coach Drake was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in November of last year.  Our condolences to his wife, Dolly, and daughters, Debbie and Jamie.  Drake was 89 years old.
