SHERWOOD PARK MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION NAMES ITS FIRST
The Sherwood Park Minor Hockey Association has announced the hiring of, Roy Stasiuk, as its first-ever General Manager.
Stasiuk has a long and varied background in all levels of hockey, including 23 years in the Western Hockey League as an Assistant General Manager and General Manager. He also spent six seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League acting as a Western Scout. Hockey Alberta awarded Stasiuk with a Hockey Development Award in 2007 for his several years of service in minor hockey and the Program of Excellence as well as his time as an NCCP Coach Clinic Conductor and High-Performance Programs’ presenter.
Outgoing SPMHA President, David Kozicki, says, “The day to day operations of minor hockey associations has gone beyond the boundaries and expectations of what volunteers should be, and can be, expected to deliver.” The Association believes a full-time manager will ease the burden of volunteers and provide more stability and continuity in long-term planning and program delivery. Kozicki added, “Our search was extensive and the calibre of candidates exceptional. It says a lot about our association and its ability to attract this level of quality individuals,”
Incoming SPMHA President, Elton Davidge, who also serves on Hockey Alberta Regional Boards, says its very important to move forward with a constant in the association office. “Our volunteer base is tremendous and vital to our success. However, volunteering is very cyclical in nature and having a General Manager will ease implementation of Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta initiatives, plus allow our association to focus on longer and farther-reaching programs to help assure affordability, with emphasis on fun, fundamentals and citizenship in our community.”
