WHAT OUR TEAMS HAVE BEEN UP TO...
SP306 - Snipers: Our October Team of the Month!
The Snipers kicked off their season strong, racking up 4 wins and 1 loss in the month of October while outscoring their opponents 47 - 8. They are our October "Team of the Month"!
SP805 - Demons: Our November Team of the Month!
The Demons had a very successful bottle drive near the beginning of the month. Despite some of the adults dislike of bottle drives, the great weather and enthusiasm of the players was contagious and made it a successful day for all involved. They are our November "Team of the Month".
SP827 - Highlanders: Our December Team of the Month!
On Dec 23, the Bantam A Highlanders along with North Seera played a tribute game to the two McDougall boys killed in Spruce Grove. Both teams agreed to do a goal can in efforts to raise money for the family. In total they raised $233.68. Along with the money raised both teams taped the blades of their sticks green in support of the boys hockey association, and had a moment of silence to start the game.
Kudos to the Highlanders for taking recognizing this tragedy and showing their respect and support. They are our December "Team of the Month"!
SP303 - All Stars: Our January Team of the Month!
The All-Stars competed in two tournaments in January - taking part and winning the Gold Medal at the Banff and Lake Louise Winter Classic, defeating a tough field of teams and weathering the elements of an outdoor game, which resulted in a shut-out for the team over Okotoks! They defeated a team for the Championship that they had lost to previously in the season. The boys overcame an injury (broken collarbone) to one of their players as well as battled the flu bug all weekend, yet came together and won!
In addition, they were one of the host teams for the Sherwood Park Tier 1 Novice tournament - winning the bronze medal in an exciting sudden-death overtime. 7 of their players took part in the Skills Competition - taking the title of Shoot-out champions, as well having one of their players was awarded "Fastest Skater" out of a field of 56 players!
The All-Stars also volunteered their time just before Christmas at the Strathcona Food Bank - doing a food drive, and enjoying a tour of the Food Bank seeing how important that service is to our less fortunate members of our community.
Congratulations on your great month SP303! And kudos to your team for taking the time to give back to your community. You are our January "Team of the Month"!
SP815 - Barons: Our February Team of the Month!
The Barons went on a road trip to participate in a tournament in Kimberley, BC. They lost one game in the round robin and advanced to the gold medal game against the only team they lost to. In a final as close as you can get.... tied 5-5 at the end of the 3rd with shots 25-26, the teams went to a shoot out. Parents were on the edge of their seats and the Baron's pulled it off! Gold!!
Congratulations on a great tournament Barons! You are our February "Team of the Month"!
Who's going to be our March team of the month?
