His appointment was effective as of April 23rd.

“We are delighted to welcome Keller to the RIC role,” said Elton Davidge, President of SPMHA. “He brings a wealth of experience as both a referee, coach and mentor, that will be of great value to helping advance our Officials program.”

As Referee-In-Chief, Keller will be responsible for the development, training, certification, and assignment of officials for all sanctioned Strathcona County minor hockey games. The RIC also serves as a liaison with Hockey Alberta, the North Zone Referee Committee and the LMHA Executive Committees for all referee related issues.

He’s officiated over 1900 games from all levels of minor hockey, as well as Senior, Junior A, CIS & ACAC levels. He has extensive off-ice experience as well, having served in various supervisory, administrative and executive roles at the local, regional and provincial levels in Alberta and Saskatchewan including serving as North Zone Chairman with Hockey Alberta. Keller is also employed as an off-ice official with the National Hockey League.

Already well-known in Sherwood Park Hockey circles, Keller has served as either Head or Assistant Coach on 24 teams within Sherwood Park dating back to 2007.

Responding to the appointment, Keller said “I am greatly looking forward to the opportunity of working with our officials and leadership team in establishing a strong referee program within Sherwood Park and Strathcona.”
