POWER EDGE PRO
Power Edge Pro utilizes Reactive Countering Training™ (R.C.T.) to engage multiple motor skills simultaneously and develop a player’s small area game performance. All patterns are completed while maintaining puck control and are designed to provide 5x as many repetitions as standard drill based practices, leading to faster development of elite skills.
Our development team will group similarly skilled players, allowing participants to work through the repetitions at a pace that builds confidence and is appropriate to their abilities.
If new to, or relatively inexperienced with PEP, we recommend that you register for the standard PEP sessions. While still separating players based on skill, these sessions will be more geared for players who are new to or have less experience with PEP. We recommend that experienced PEP skaters register for the PEP Advanced program, as these sessions will be faster paced and geared for players who've had lots of PEP reps. Exceptions may be made for players with no prior PEP experience that graded in Tiers 1 or 2 in the 2021-2022 season.
Sessions will be led by SPMHA Level 3 Certified PEP Instructors.

POWER SKATING
Power skating teaches proper edge utilization so that edge movement becomes instinctual, adding natural agility, while playing the game. Body position is key for strong grip and balanced lean, skills that ultimately result in players having tight, quick movements. Our power skating camps will use a combination of drills to help advance players with their technique, allowing increased proprioception and overall body awareness.
This summer our camps will be lead by Britney Millar of Millar Power Skating.
Millar Power Skating - Britney Millar
Britney Millar is a highly motivated Master Power Skating Instructor with over 13 years of experience with both male and female athletes (hockey and ringette) ranging from Minor Hockey, AJHL, Semi-Pro, and Professional to the NHL level.
Her philosophy of Power Skating Instruction is based on error detection and correction methods she has acquired through 10 years as a Professional Power Skating Instructor and extensive playing career (Mercyhurst University - NCAA Division 1 and 9 years as a Professional Women’s Hockey Player). She does not have specific lesson plans that she follows for each session. Instead, she reads and reacts to what the players need in the moment. She has specific drills that she uses to assist players with their technique, allowing increased proprioception and overall body awareness.

EVALUATION PREPARATION
Our Evaluation Prep camps are designed to maximize your player's evaluation performance and confidence by focusing on the individual skills, specific drills and gameplay scenarios that they will be evaluated on during SPMHA Fall Evaluations. The curriculum will include a progressive focus on the skills being tested, ranging from basic fundamentals of the skills through to the actual evaluation drills and evaluation equipment that will be used. With instructors providing a large volume of repetitions and corrective feedback, your player will have better confidence and less anxiety heading into evals, providing them the best opportunity to reach the level they are aiming for.
Camps will have two start times available, and participants will be grouped with similarly skilled players, allowing them to move through the drills at a speed appropriate for their abilities, in order to help build their confidence in performing each drill. All Eval Prep camps will be lead on-ice by members of our SPMHA Development Team,

BODY CHECKING, BATTLE/CONDITIONING & DEFENSE
BODY CHECKING
This camp is specifically designed to teach skills and techniques as they relate to body contact. The program will focus on proper techniques for initiating and receiving contact. The camp will expose players to contact in a controlled setting, giving the player confidence in a multitude of situations. Each skill is demonstrated with proper technique, and then broken down into crucial components, so they have the confidence to grow and develop their skills and move onto more advanced abilities.
BATTLE & CONDITIONING
Our battle & conditioning camps are designed to help players boost their compete skills, improve conditioning levels, and get players prepared, confident, and ready to work when they step out on the ice for evaluation season. Ice times will consist of high tempo and high flow drills to keep the skaters engaged and moving.
DEFENSIVE TACTICS
Our defense training camp will be an intense 5 day program covering a wide range of defensive skills, concepts and tactics specific to the defensive side of the puck. It is designed for players you are looking to take their defensive skills to the next level. This camp is open to players from U11 through U18, but players will be grouped with similar skill in their on-ice stations.

SPARK 3-ON-3
New to our SPARK Summer Development Sessions this year is 3-on-3!
3-on-3 hockey helps to increase a player's puck handling, puck support, team play, small area and transition skills. It's a great way to develop your player's individual skills and tactics in a fun and competitive environment. These sessions are also great for goalies, with plenty of shots on net. Get your players skating and stick skills back up to speed in a fun and competitive environment!
All 3-on-3 sessions will run as a mini-tournament. Each age group will consist of 4 teams made up of 9 players and a goalie. Games will be half ice, and each team will compete in 5 games leading up to the SPARK 3v3 Championship, with an exciting prize for the winning teams!
Friend requests will be accepted, and each player will be able to submit up to two reciprocal friend requests. Play on a line with your friends. Lines will be matched with similar skill for competitive gameplay.

GOALTENDER TRAINING
By popular demand, SPMHA is pleased to bring back Kurtis Mucha to lead our Goalie Development Camps for 2022.
Kurtis grew up in Sherwood Park and played his minor hockey in the SPKAC system. He enjoyed a successful Bantam AAA season with his team, which ultimately led him to being drafted 25th overall in the WHL Bantam draft by the Portland Winterhawks. Making his WHL debut as a 15 year old, Kurtis went on to play 4.5 seasons with the Winterhawks and finished his 20 year old season with the Kamloops Blazers. After completing his 5 seasons in the WHL, Kurtis still ranks 1st in games played by a goaltender in the WHL’s history at 245, 2nd in minutes at 13,708, and 3rd in most saves at 6,908. Kurtis chose to utilize the WHL scholarship program and attended the University of Alberta from 2010 – 2015. He was very fortunate to be part of such a successful program, winning 4 league titles and 2 national championships in his time with the Golden Bears.
Upon graduation, Kurtis was provided the opportunity to get into coaching. Under the mentorship of Dustin Schwartz, Kurtis assumed the role as Director of Goalie Development at the Vimy Ridge Academy in Edmonton as well as the Goalie Development Coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL. Kurtis has worked with the Spruce Grove Saints in the past and is currently with the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the AJHL. His coaching extends to many minor hockey associations in and around the Edmonton area.
